How to Catch Flounder with a Charter Fishing Boat

Flounders are very interesting fish with both of their eyes are on one side of their head and tend to stick to the bottom of the ocean except to veer a little to get something to eat. This is what the fishermen look for when they are fishing – a puff of mud of some sort which means the flounder has found something yummy to munch on. Hiring a charter fishing boat can be a fun family vacation or get-a-way, especially when fishing the flounder. The flounder is a great fish and can be caught off the coast of Rhode Island where a number of sporting boats are out trying to catch this funny looking fish.
If you are fishing flounder, do not spend more than 15 minutes looking for them, move around until you get to a good drift where you could catch 2 or more fish. Stay in that position until it is fished out. Flounder do not always stay in the same location, although they do prefer sandy bottoms. With the progression of the season, they go deeper with the tide, typically east or west.
The fishing may be slow depending upon the drift. If the drift is slow the flounder fishing will be slow as well. If you encounter a fast drift, slow the boat down with a sea anchor or such or just come another day.
When you do get to catching the fish, remember to correctly set the hook. Too many times, people want to quickly jerk up the rod when they feel a hit. Typically the flounder will bite the end of the bait away from the hook so if you jerk the rod, it will pull the bait off the hook. Once you feel the hit, lift the rod slowly until the flounder is hooked on, then you can proceed to reel it in. A light tip rod is best for this type of fish so you can feel the hits a lot easier than with a heavier tip.
People always wonder what bait is best, just remember that squid is always an excellent bait, but depending on the day, peanut butter and flounder belly strips work well also. Only use the smallest sinker weight so it will keep your rig on the bottom so you can jig it and never let the rig drag on the bottom. Only use a gentle jig, lifting about 10” on the rod tip and back down again until you feel the sinker hit the bottom.

A recent survey by the ASI yielded some astounding results about how the 19 billion dollar promotional product business compares to TV and magazine ads. TV advertising costs about $0.019 per impression for prime time placement. Magazine ads are at about $0.033 per impression. Promotional products only cost $0.004 per impression. Projected into thousands or millions of dollars, the results are staggering.
Sure, but does it work? The return of investment in promo products is far better than TV or magazines. The fact of the matter is that a commercial takes relatively little air time at about a minute and a half at a time. Magazine ads last until the page is turned, and may be completely skimmed over. A coffee cup with a company logo is with the customer nearly every morning and during nearly every coffee break. If you have a good promo product, the impression can be nearly constant.
The idea is pretty simple. People like free stuff. You like business. When you bring the two together, it’s a win-win situation. 90% of people will remember a business that they got swag from. More than 60% of people who got your coffee mug will probably do business with you. You do have to watch out for badly conceived swag, though. 42% of people will decide whether or not to do business with a company based on their promotional products. This is all according to the ASI survey.
Of course, properly creating promotional products is a risky business. Some ideas work, and others don’t. This is especially true if you try to expand beyond the tried and true methods. There is a very good reason Fox doesn’t pass out fox tail neck ties as a promotion. Or why hip replacement surgeons don’t market with tennis balls. Considerations on this level take a lot of research on your demographics.
On top of the previously mentioned benefits, promotional products also have the unique ability to be easily tracked and evaluated. Figuring out the return on investment for TV or magazine ads is a pretty fuzzy business. With promotional products, you have a solid product, in known amounts, and the return on investment is much easier. With all that said, it’s good business to use promotional products.
